Funny thing happened on the way to the market.
I went to the mall yesterday with my wife and kids and we went to the food court for lunch. I found the selection of places to eat to be slim pickings. There were plenty of restaurants, but the selection of tasty and healthy food options was not impressive. Sitting there looking at what most people eat presents an interesting sociology experiment. Most people will eat a sandwich or burger with a side of and wash it down with a soft drink. Carbs and sugar.
What I find strange is that these are the same people who want to be healthy. If you would get up and bravely ask your neighbour in the food court and say, “Excuse me mister, do you want to be healthy?” The obvious answer would be a resounding, “YES!”
First of all, I would like to go on record to say that I do find that our options are limited. Sugar, salt and fat are always in our faces and it takes a great deal of discipline not to over consume them.
Small choices lead to small victories and this will lead to winning the battle. This is how you find healthiest fast food options.
Here are some quick tips he next time you go to the food court.
-Drink water whenever possible.
-Include as many vegetables as possible.
-Watch the carbs and starchy foods:
– one slice of bread instead of two
– avoid bagels as they have more carbohydrates than two slices of bread.
– Brown bread is better but less bread is ideal.
-Sauces often are loaded in hidden salt – less is more!
Its not easy making the choice for healthiest fast food options, but we need to make that concious effort if we are truely engaged in our health.
